Summary
This study investigates the confrontation of sexual violence against the youth segment, from the perspective of public school managers. This is an excerpt from the research: “Facing sexual violence against children and adolescents: the role of the School” carried out in the municipalities of Manaus, Coari, Iranduba, Rio Preto da Eva and Nova Airão, in Amazonas, in 2021. interviewed 5 managers representing the schools of the aforementioned municipalities. Topics 1. Conception of sexual violence; 2. Activities developed to prevent sexual violence against children and adolescents; 3. Positioning of Schools in cases of sexual violence 4. Participation of students in the organization of activities on sexual violence, guided the investigative process. The results showed that: Managers understand what sexual violence is, have different and complementary perceptions, but none of them associated it with a sexual crime; for prevention, schools develop the following actions: lectures, guidelines, curricular activities and partnerships with other institutions, but these are still limited actions in the face of challenges. On the other hand, many teachers do not feel prepared to discuss sexual violence, sex and sexuality with adolescents. As for the school's position on this very serious sexual problem, there is no consensus among administrators. Some managers immediately call the Tutelary Council, others talk to the victim of sexual violence; others contact the protection network and there are those who summon teachers for a dialogue. Regarding student participation in this debate, some schools consider youth participation important and involve them, others leave them aside. It is essential to expand the ways of coping with sexual violence, considering the strategies, both at the micro and macro levels.
