The chosen theme underscores the urgent need to address the lack of communication among Brazilian social policies and how this significantly impacts the incarceration of specific groups. The lack of coherence and real effectiveness in Brazil's social policies has perpetuated inequalities and, consequently, negatively affected progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, Social Work can be identified as a key player in seeking solutions.The relationship between Brazilian social policies and the incarceration of specific groups represents a complex issue with serious implications for progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this context, Brazil's social policies play a significant role within society. When they fail to address the underlying inequalities that lead to disproportionately high rates of incarceration among marginalized groups, they compromise the pursuit of a fair and equitable society. This failure can further fuel the cycle of mass incarceration, which directly impacts the SDGs, specifically in poverty eradication, gender equality, and the fight against inequalities. When specific groups are disproportionately incarcerated, it limits their access to economic and social opportunities, perpetuating poverty and exclusion. Gender inequality in the implementation of social policies contributes to the marginalization of women, hindering the achievement of gender equality.To achieve the SDGs, it is crucial to adopt inclusive and equitable social policies that address the systemic inequalities leading to mass incarceration. This requires the review and reform of existing policies to ensure they are evidence-based, sensitive to diversity, and fair.In summary, the incoherence in Brazilian social policies plays a central role in the incarceration of specific groups and represents a significant obstacle to progress towards the SDGs. Resolving this issue requires a commitment to social policies that address underlying inequalities and promote inclusion and equality, ensuring that Brazil advances towards the SDGs, creating a space as it’s legally envisaged.
